Gengo (era names) 令和‐Reiwa
A new era will begin in Japan, and it is to be called Reiwa. The move from Heisei to Reiwa will also mark the first time that a current Emperor will step down in 200 years. The country entered into the Heisei era from Showa under a pall of gloom after the demise of the Emperor. Yet, as per the new era’s naming, Reiwa, the country moves into this new era with a feeling of hope. Reiwa will be the 248th era since the Taika.
2019年5月1日より新しい元号に変わります。次の元号は『令和』です。平成から令和へは、約200年ぶりの生前退位となります。昭和から平成への改元は、天皇の崩御という悲しみの中で迎えましたが、今回は『令和』の意味にもあるように希望に満ちた趣きで迎えようとしています。『令和』は大化から数えて248番目の元号となります。
